Gold Lace Wyandotte Trio at DawnontheFarm.com Tennessee Poultry FarmMost of our poultry breeds are on the ALBC Conservation Priority List.  THE AMERICAN LIVESTOCK BREEDS CONSERVANCY, founded in 1977, is a non-profit membership organization working to protect over 150 breeds of cattle, goats, horses, asses, sheep, pigs, rabbits and poultry from extinction. It is the pioneer organization in the U.S. working to conserve heritage breeds and genetic diversity in livestock.  To learn how they decide if a breed belongs on the list => click here

We also have a “Project” birds too.  To learn more about our Breeding Projects, click here.

Hatching Eggs

We hatch chicks on demand for others, as well as for ourselves.  To learn more about our hatching process and see what our incubators are currently working on, visit our Look Who’s Hatching page. To purchase fertile eggs for hatching visit the For Sale page for availability.

More about our Chickens

Smoky Mountain Chicken Coop at Dawn on the Farm : Click Here for Construction Details & PhotosOur Chickens are kept in a vareity of housing situations depending on the season. Breeding roosters are sometimes seperated into their own homes and a couple of “extra” roosters freerange our property year round.  During Spring/Summer & Fall our chickens are placed into breeding situations; a group of hens with a single rooster each with their own fully furnished homes.
The photo to the right is our Hen House (left) and Aviary(right) which we added after completing the hen house back in 2008.  They can be opened up to eachother or seperated for breeding season to create two areas.

We raise “Pet Quality” Chickens. To me this means they are hand raised, are perfect for pets & your own backyard flock and may or may NOT win a blue ribbon at your local county show! While we do currently have a few show chickens; and sell chicks & fertile eggs, we are not seasoned at showing nor professional breeders and do not currently want to get involved in the term “Show Quality”.
